AUTMHQ UPDATE

Hola and Hello,

Over the first two public hearings on the 2024 Austin City Budget, hundreds of Austinites spoke up in support of the Community Investment Budget (CIB) and reject proposals that don’t serve us as a community, like an increased police budget and the detrimental restructuring of the Equity and Civil Rights Offices. Thanks to your strong advocacy, the City halted plans to disempower the Equity and Civil Rights Offices and City Council filed dozens of good budget amendments to fulfill the Community Investment Budget! However; there are still good proposals that need a champion, like the $5.9M CIB recommendation to fund workforce development. On August 16th, you'll have one more chance to make your voice heard to help push for things missing from the budget like workforce development that help fund Austin Urban Technology Movement (AUTMHQ). How you can help AUTMHQ advocate for workforce development funding: 1. Email or call your city council member and the mayor to thank them for their good amendments and to urge them to support workforce development funding. 2. Sign up to speak on Wednesday 8/16: Testify at Austin City Hall or over-the-phone on Wednesday, August 16th starting at 10 AM. You can sign-up online until noon on Tuesday, August 15th. In-person sign-up ends at 9:15 AM on Wednesday, August 16. Please come in-person if you’re able! 3. Mention the Master Community Workforce Plan to move Austinites out of poverty or the Hire Local Plan where businesses employ and develop local talent to meet workforce needs. Mention that AUTMHQ's services help to support this work. Thank you for joining us in this movement towards a more diverse and equitable tech ecosystem for all. Sincerely, The AUTMHQ Team
